Jane Oldfield gave a fascinating talk on the history of Eynsham Hall and Park at our April 2018 meeting. Jane explained that the Park has been inhabited since the Iron Age, and a fort is still visible. The estate was owned by Eynsham Abbey until the dissolution of the monasteries under Henry VIII. After that time it was bought and sold on many occasions, before coming into the ownership of the Mason family in the 1860s. The Mason family carried out many improvements to the park and gardens. The current hall was built in 1908 and has been used as a conference centre, police training college and hotel over the years. We had an enjoyable evening and gained an interesting insight into our local history.
