Loneliness

Updated: Jan 11, 2020

We spent some time at our May 2018 meeting thinking about the national W.I. resolution to alleviate loneliness. We were pleased to welcome Jenny Wylie, who shared some of her work and ideas in this area. Jenny helped us to recognise that loneliness is not a visible condition, and it is not unique to any particular age group. We also found out about “Ami” an Oxfordshire web based initiative, which helps to match volunteers with local people in need of companionship and support (www.withami.co.uk). It was an evening of debate and ideas, and we will continue to work with these to see how best we can support lonely people in our community.

"Ami makes it easy to be more connected to people in your community in Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire and Surrey, helping you to feel happier and healthier. You can use Ami to find someone near you who needs a little neighbourly help or would enjoy a friendly visit and a chat. Ami will show you exactly what’s needed near you and help you register with a voluntary organisation." Taken from With Ami Homepage
