A Passion for Pearls


We were joined at our March meeting by Frances Benton, who shared her “passion for pearls”.

Frances is such a popular speaker that we booked her two years ago for this meeting. Thankfully, the wait was worth it! Frances gave us a hugely enjoyable and informative talk, which incorporated the biology, mythology, history and geography of pearl production. She also brought along an array of pearls of many different colours, shapes and sizes. The highlight of the evening for many of us was the opportunity for a spot of retail therapy. Frances’ profits are all donated to a school for children with autism, which somehow helped to justify the expenditure!


It was well worth the wait and an event not to be missed.

Many WIs and other organisations have enjoyed Frances speak hence the need for such a long lead time before hearing about the Tale of the Tears of the Dragon:
