Dementia Friends


At the WI meeting on Monday 9th January we learnt about Dementia. Dementia is an umbrella term for a group of diseases which affect the brain, memory, perception and quality of life of the individuals who are affected by it. The speaker was excellent and gave us a positive slant on caring for people with the disease, including how to access memories and engage in discussion. There are some embryonic treatments which can improve the life of some patients. This meeting will be followed up with a three hour meeting open to all residents of Freeland which will further our knowledge. The members of the WI voted on the list of resolutions chosen by the WI this year. Freeland WI chose to support the resolution To Alleviate Loneliness, a topic we felt we could actively contribute to. We also agreed to be part of a local Community Emergency Plan should it ever be necessary.
