A big thank you

Freeland WI would like to thank everyone who supported the Mass Garage Sale on Sunday 11th September. We were blessed with wonderful weather and people came from a wide area, including Dudley, Abingdon, Kidlington, Charlbury, Banbury, Oxford and surrounding villages. As a result of this initiative we are sending £250 to the Denman College Restoration Fund. The Village Quiz was also great fun with the raffle funds of £250 being presented to the War Memorial restoration fund and a generous donation to Freeland WI. Thanks must be recorded to Lesley Jenkins for taking the lead on both of these events. ​At our September meeting we learnt about the history of Witney Blankets. In 1969 Earleys of Witney celebrated 300 years of blanket making in Witney, but the rise in popularity of Duvets saw the factory finally close in 2002. Witney Blankets were exported all over the world and were the reason Witney prospered.
