Silent Witness comes to Freeland

Members and guests of Freeland WI enjoyed a fascinating talk from Amy Kuzemka on the work of a Forensic Reporting Officer. We learnt the distribution of blood and bodily fluids in the cases of stabbings, kickings and crimes of a sexual nature and the changes the discovery of DNA has made to Forensic Science. We were amazed at how long DNA can survive and that swabs are usually taken from the inside of the mouth. We were assured that the slides we were shown were in fact mocked up using paint rather than blood. We all agreed we had enjoyed an excellent evening even if we had missed Silent Witness on the TV. Our next meeting on March 9th will our first AGM, we are combining this with a late Christmas bring and share supper.
