Birthday & AGM

Freeland WI celebrated it's second birthday at the AGM on the evening of 12th March. The same day nine members went to Denman College for the day (see Gallery 2016 for some photos). We saw a book which showed that Freeland actually had a WI prior to 1936 when the book was gifted to the National president of the time. WIs throughout the country were listed. Denman College is a wonderful educational facility which offers a variety of both residential and non-residential courses to members of the WI and increasingly non-members, even men, are welcome to join the courses these days. The beautiful Georgian premises are set in delightful gardens, the food is wonderful and the standard of work done by students was exceptional. Our AGM was well attended and Stella Oakes, an Oxfordshire Federation WI Advisor, gave an interesting presentation on how national, district and membership all interlink for the benefit of members. The existing committee were all prepared to stand for another year and Lorraine Pengilley was re-eleccted as president.
