Nostalgia Night at Freeland WI
At our WI meeting on Monday 13th October Mike Payne gave us a very interesting insight into the The History of Pinewood Studios. The fortunes of the studios rose and fell in line with the success of one off films that became series such as The Carry On films. We all enjoyed looking at the various James Bonds and still rated Sean the dishiest . According to Mike it was Superman (and perhaps the CEO of Pinewood studios) who saved the studios from the brink of extinction in recent years – how appropriate is that!! We are now getting very excited about our meeting on Monday 10th November when Amanda Belz who is a trainer at Oxford Brookes University and also heads up the Cookery School will be doing a session for us on Festive Cookery. We are not quite sure how the evening will pan out but Amanda is brimming with ideas. She thought she would demonstrate something along the lines of :- Christmas Terrine (the kind of thing you could serve on Boxing day), Soda Bread (a quick recipe passed on by a top class chef), quick dessert. Maybe some canapés plus some tricks of the trade and how to get organised in advance etc. We plan to raffle off the cooked dishes at the end of the evening We look forward to seeing you there.
